Sharp Edge Weapon Defence

We’re pleased to share a focused briefing from the MDTA training curriculum, designed to enhance your preparedness and response capabilities in scenarios involving sharp-edged weapons such as knives and machetes.

This training emphasises Situational Awareness, Conflict Management, and Physical Self-Defence, equipping you with the tools to prevent escalation and respond effectively under pressure.

We teach

Optimal Awareness.
Recognise potential threats early. If a weapon or hostile intent is visible, your first priority is to evacuate the area safely.
Do not wait for the situation to escalate.

Conflict Management.
In situations involving sharp weapons, verbal de-escalation is secondary to maintaining a safe buffer zone.
Use assertive communication to manage distance and buy time for threat assessment and positioning.

Physical Self-Defence (Last Resort).
If an attack is unavoidable, respond decisively with techniques focused on survival and rapid disengagement.
Actions should be simple, effective, and aligned with the MDTA F.A.C.T.S. principle.

Training Focus Areas
Prevention strategies: Recognise and avoid potential threats before escalation
Verbal assertiveness: Communicate clearly to maintain safe distance
Evade & escape techniques: Apply MDTA F.A.C.T.S. principles when physical defence is unavoidable
Use of force: Understand legal and tactical boundaries for defensive action
